19-year-old Tommy (Anson Boon) is completely off the rails. A drug addled sexual deviant who seems to get pleasure in abusing kids. Whilst in a state of narcotic induced disarray, he is knocked out and snatched off the street. When he wakes he is shackled in the basement of the house owned by Chris and Kathryn played by Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough.

Tommy has no idea who they are, but they seem to know about his abhorrent lifestyle, and are on a mission to straighten him out.

Director Jan Komasa’s thought provoking, satirical, drama, co-written by Bartek Bartosik and Naqqash Khalid is a frequently unsettling watch. Tommy’s treatment is often inhumane, but it left me undecided if it was worthwhile if he ends up no longer a danger to the community.

It is also blackly comic at times, and I definitely laughed more often than the overhyped and overrated The Drama, also currently on release. Both Graham and Riseborough are brilliant. Kathryn is haunted by a dark secret from their past and Chris seems benevolent a lot of the time, but prone to violent rages.

Bleak but compelling and with a thought provoking ending.
