Oak Street is a typical 1980’s American suburban town and living there are the Platts, a seemingly typical American family consisting of Greg (Ewen McGregor), his wife, Denise (Anne Hathaway) and their children Audrey (Maisy Stella) and Brian (Christian Convery). Below the surface, though, there are serious cracks in the marriage. Unexpectedly, a mysterious cosmic event transports their neighbourhood to a location with prehistoric creatures. The family need to come together more than ever, as their survival depends on it.

That certainly is a novel, if ridiculous premise. But, if you can go with it, there is much to enjoy. Even after seven Jurassic Park/World movies, I have not tired of seeing humans being chased by dinosaurs, and there are both edge of your seat and very amusing scenes. The CGI is variable but never as bad as often seen these days.

The acting is better than you might expect in a film like this, particularly by Hathaway and Stella, both of whom are given a chance to show their skills thanks to a decent script by director David Robert Mitchell. Stella was great in My Old Ass a couple of years ago and she impresses again.

The ending probably ties everything up too neatly, but this is a lot of fun.
