I saw the trailer at the cinema for Wolfs a few weeks ago and have been anticipating it keenly. Starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney, I thought it would be a big release but it has instead gone straight to streaming.
The pair star as two professional fixers who like to operate as lone wolves. Despite being in the same line of work and being very similar they are unaware of each other, both believing that they are the best at what they do. When politician, Margaret (Amy Ryan) asks a young man to join her in her hotel room, she is not prepared for his reaction to taking cocaine.
Thinking he is dead, she calls George Clooney’s fixer, only for Brad Pitt’s character to also turn up, alerted by the hotel manager. The man, who was in the middle of his first drugs deal, is not dead and escapes the room. The pair have to reluctantly work together to catch him and deliver the drugs before anyone gets killed.
I struggle to understand the low key release or the lukewarm reaction to this terrifically fun buddy-action thriller. Jon Watts’ script sparkles and he directs stylishly. Amy Ryan is so good in her brief appearance and Austin Abrams is very funny as the young man. However, the film belongs to Pitt and Clooney. They are the consummate movie stars who have such natural chemistry, making this a breezy, joyful watch.
A new Oceans film has recently been confirmed and I cannot wait to see them on screen together again.
