The cast, that includes Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann and Anna Faris is the main draw for this comedy written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. Three childhood best friends, Jane (Mann), Coco (Michelle Buteau) and Sophie (Faris), embark on some much needed pampering during a luxury girls’ getaway. But when their train wreck friend, Mel (Fisher), turns up, the relaxation quickly descends into chaos.
Spa Weekend has received scathing reviews, and, whilst I would not claim that it is a comedy classic, I enjoyed it more than most people seem to have. A lot of the jokes may be sign posted but the sheer bravura of Fisher’s performance meant that a fair number of them made me chuckle.
The plot does not bear much scrutiny as the three friends constantly complain about Mel, only to be caught up in her antics too easily. But the story rattles along without too many lulls.
