Michael Shanks’ body horror film stars real-life married actors Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple, Tim and Millie, who move to the countryside but find themselves encountering a mysterious force that horrifically causes changes in their bodies.
This is a curious film. I found a lot of it surprisingly funny, though was never sure if that was really Shanks’ intention most of the time. There was a good mystery buried in the story involving a strange cult, and interesting subtext about co-dependency, but neither are explored fully.
Damon Herriman is good as a creepily nice colleague of Millie’s and Brie is always a strong presence, though oddly has little chemistry with Franco.
There are some unsettling moments but the ending is a real let down.
