Fresh out of prison, Asia Reaves (Zazie Beetz), wants to find her younger sister Maria (Myha’la). She finds out that she is working in a mysterious New York City high rise, and cons herself inside, only to find it is home to a satanic cult.

It is odd that another film along similar lines has come out so soon after Ready or Not 2, but Kirill Sokolov’s action horror is vastly inferior. The immortal devil worshippers are indestructible so most of the bloody violence is inconsequential. Asia is mortal but seems to shrug off horrific wounds really easily. It is also absurd that an ordinary woman basically becomes ninja warrior after a few years in prison.

The structure that drops the audience into the action with little backstory that only gets filled in later does not work, and is quite irritating. All of that might be bearable if the comedic moments worked, but most of them did not.

As it ground on, I felt more and more like I was watching a video game, and it was about as engrossing as that would be.
