Adam Clay (Jason Statham) is a former operative of a clandestine organization called Beekeepers. After his friend and neighbour kills herself when she falls for a phishing scam, Clay sets out to exact revenge against the company responsible.
This is utterly absurd stuff as Clay wipes out hundreds of people, often when he is not armed. However it is also tremendous fun, with Statham at his most Stathamy. It also boosts a supporting cast of excellent actors such as Jeremy Irons, Jemma Redgrave and Minnie Driver relishing their roles.
The constant references to bees and beekeeping grate after a while, but The Beekeeper has some laugh-out-loud moments and director David Ayer provides some visceral action sequences.
