Spinal Tap was one of the best comedies of the 1980’s and was one of the first mockumentaries. Forty-one years after that was released, director Rob Reiner, stars Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer all return for a sequel. Fifteen years after they split up, the band reunite for one final show.

I am sure this will not be considered a classic in the same way as the original is, and none of the lines will be quoted in 40 years time. However, it is wonderfully good natured and whenever it seemed to be starting to lag, another chucklesome moment came along.

All three of the band step back into their roles with ease and there is real quality in the supporting roles. The wonderful Kerry Godliman, one of our finest stand ups, plays their new manager, Hope Faith. She spars brilliantly with the sleazy and musically ignorant, promoter, Simon Howler played by Chris Addison. I am sure that it is no coincidence that he shares a forename with Messrs Cowell and Fuller!

Elton John and Paul McCartney provide amusing cameos and be sure to sit through the end credits, as some of the funniest lines are there.

A little slack in places but I found this belated sequel pretty enjoyable.
