Under appreciated in his own country, Ken Loach has had an unprecedented run of brilliant films for the last 36 years. This documentary on the great film director largely concentrates on his early years and his time in the wilderness in the 70s and 80s when he wasn’t able to get his films made.
That was a good decision as despite being a big fan, there was a lot I learned, from his childhood days, his standing as conservative in a school mock election to him being so desperate for work that he took a job directing a McDonalds advert in the 80s.
Undoubtedly for fans of the man, it left me eager to find some of his old television work.
