A beautiful and successful politician, Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron) who is about to embark on a presidential run hires a schlubby and unemployed childhood friend, Fred Flarsky, (Seth Rogan) as a speechwriter. Unexpectedly, she begins to fall for him. This is a film that is much better than it has any right to be. It contains a lot of laughs of various types, from slapstick and gross out to a few moments of sharp satire.

True the arc of the story is utterly predictable and there is something inherently unbelievably at its core. No, I’m not talking about the likelihood of Charlotte being attracted to Fred as the pair do have great chemistry, but the idea that a woman even just tangentially involved in a sex scandal could become US President. That said, the flaws are easy to overlook as this is funny, warm hearted stuff.
