Nancy Stokes (Emma Thompson) is a 55 year old widow who has only ever had sex with her husband and never had an orgasm. So, she hires Leo (Daryl McCormack), a sex worker and arranges to meet him in a plush hotel.

Over the course of four meetings, the audience gets to know the pair better and they also learn about themselves. The film is not as trite or obvious as that might sound. Katy Brand’s script is perceptive, witty and fresh, expertly delivered by the two leads. Thompson, in particular, is wonderful as the unfulfilled, complicated older woman.

The set up is inevitably a little stagey, but that did not diminish my enjoyment.
