For home viewing there is Ellie and Abbie (& Ellie’s Dead Aunt), a lightweight Australian comedy. Sophie Hawkshaw stars as Ellie, a gay 17 year old who is trying to find a way of asking classmate Abbie (Zoe Terakes) to a school dance. Fortunately for her, the ghost of her Aunt Tara (Julia Billington) appears to help her.
It is quite fun spending time with the three likeable characters, and the film rattles along pretty well. But, Abbie makes no secret of her sexual orientation and or that she clearly likes her friend so there is very little jeopardy.
