Also out in limited release is the British comedy Brakes. It chronicles the doomed relationships of nine couples by showing us first the break-up scenes and then how they got together.
It has some interesting moments but the talented cast, including Julia Davis and Kerry Fox demonstrate that they are better actors than improvisers, a skill they are asked to employ here. Peter Wight is great though.
With so many stories, it is difficult to get involved with any of them and the central conceit was done way better by Francois Oxon’s 5×2 in 2004. Plus points for having a number of songs by the magnificent Quickspace on the soundtrack.
