Already available on streaming services, just weeks after a cinema release, I hope that ‘American Woman’ finds its audience. Sienna Miller gives a barnstorming performance as Debra, a headstrong single mother whose life is torn apart when her teenage daughter disappears.

The film shows how her life unfolds over the subsequent 11 years, until Debra finally discovers the truth. Billed as a mystery, this is more of a family drama. I found it a little unengaging initially as Debra seems not to be a very sympathetic figure. However, as the time passed, I became more and more invested in her and her struggles to make good choices.

As well as the brilliant Miller, Will Sasso is superb as her brother-in-law.
