When experienced sailor Richard Sharp (Sam Claflin) agrees to sail a friend’s yacht from Tahiti to San Diego, his new girlfriend, Tami Oldham (Shailene Woodley) accompanies him. But when an unexpected storm hits, it is down to her to fight for their survival.

In recent years there seems to have been not only a glut of survival at sea stories, but also survival against the odds stories, so maybe it was the over familiarity of the hazards that left me feeling a little cold towards this dramatic true story.

Or maybe it was the story structure as it moves from scenes after the storm to those showing what happened before they set sail, that resulted in the action becoming a bit bogged down. I can’t blame the two leads as they are both fine and the story should have been inherently interesting. In the end though, I felt a little underwhelmed.
