Two criminals in New York are hired to steal cocaine from a rival dealer in the early hours of a morning, but when they are interrupted by police carnage ensues. With Manhattan on lock down, Detectives Andre Davis (Chadwick Boseman) and Frankie Burns (Sienna Miller) face a race against time to find the culprits, and work out who is actually behind the night of violence.

This is a nicely old fashioned cop thriller, without any pretensions. The influences of 70s and 80s police procedurals are clear, especially ‘The French Connection’ during a terrific subway chase sequence. Whilst it is not in the league of the 1972 Oscar winner, it is a stripped-down treat. Director Brian Kirk, keeps the action moving at a tremendous rate and the cast also elevates the material.

Both Boseman and especially Miller impress and the supporting cast is solid from from the major players like J.K. Simmons to those who feature only briefly, such as Victoria Cartagena.

There are no great surprises in the story and the dialogue is a bit hokey on occasions but I was having too much fun to care about that.
