It is 25 years since the Los Angeles riots triggered by the police beating of Rodney King, and there is going to be a slew of documentaries on the subject.
This effort from directors Dan Lindsay and TJ Martin is having a small cinema release and is also available on Sky’s on demand service. The events are shown solely using archive footage from the time, both television coverage and amateur camcorder footage. That approach works up to a point, putting you right into the action and allowing you to come to your own conclusions. With a sketchy memory of the time, I found the court room scenes as the offending police officers tried and acquitted, the most eye-opening. However, the film lacks analysis or context that some interviews with the participants might have brought.
