Nobody was one of the most pleasant surprises of and one of the most purely enjoyable films of 2021. The writer of that, Derek Kolstad has teamed up with Aaron Rabin to pen this sequel, directed by Timo Tjahjanto. Bob Odenkirk is also back as former government assassin, Hutch Mansell. He takes his family on a holiday to the small town of Plummerville. However, he soon finds himself involved with a dodgy theme park operator, Wyatt Martin (Jon Ortiz), a corrupt law enforcer, Sheriff Abel (Colin Hanks), and a merciless crime boss, Lendina (Sharon Stone).
It would be hard to top the novelty of the first film and this sequel does not do that. It is, though, a great escapist time. The idea of an American town under the total control of a crime boss, to the extent that Lendina can commit mass murder with no consequences is ridiculous, but it easy to go along with it.
Odenkirk is enjoyably world weary again, but it is Sharon Stone as the twisted Lendina who steals the show. The film bowls along culminating in a great showdown at a theme park that felt like a cross between Home Alone and The Magnificent Seven!
Here’s hoping that Nobody 2 will make enough money for there to be a third instalment.
