65 Days: This Day
A couple of years ago, 365 Days was my worst film of the year. Amazingly, I have watched the sequel and, almost as amazingly, it is as bad as the original. Granted, the casual misogyny of the first one has gone but so has almost any semblance of a plot. The first half hour just contains a series of boringly unerotic soft core sex scenes. the story does kick in a little after that but it is desperately dull with Anna Maria Sieklucka making a bid for the worst performance of the year.

Silverton Siege
Silverton Siege is loosely based on a true story of 3 freedom fighters in South Africa who, in 1980, take customers in a bank hostage, demanding that Nelson Mandela be released from prison. It is unusual to have a siege film like this where you are rooting for the ‘criminals’ but otherwise it follows a predictable formula. Solid enough though.

Honeymoon With My Mother
An unfunny Spanish comedy about a man who is stood up at the alter but still goes on his honeymoon, though with his Mum rather than his wife. Tries to teach some pretty obvious lessons and does so in a heavy handed way.

The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes
An investigation into the death of Marilyn Monroe that, despite featuring previously unheard material, does not shed any new light into the event. Anything involving Hollywood and politics of that era holds some interest for me but this documentary is no better than something Channel 5 would pad their schedules with.

40 Years Young
A Mexican comedy that tries to be more meaningful by tackling the subject of depression in an unconvincing way. A middle aged man enters a culinary competition only to make an unexpected discovery. Tedious and badly acted.

Our Father
A documentary about Donald Cline, a fertility doctor in America who used his own sperm to impregnate at least 90 women without their knowledge or consent. He is clearly a disgusting individual who has not been punished for his actions and there are other shocking revelations, such as 40 other doctors have been found doing the same thing. However, this would have worked better as a half hour TV segment or show as once the revelation is made, there is little additional information provided.

Rumspringa
A painfully unfunny and dated film about an Amish man travelling to Berlin and having adventures in the big city. I would say you could write the jokes from that set up, but most people would do that better than the film makers here.

Thar
An Indian revenge drama about a man going to a new town to find a job and avenge his past. Stylishly made with a decent performance by Anil Kapoor, but ultimately quite flat.

Along for the Ride
Another in a never ending run of films about teens who are much deeper than any I have ever met having meaningful conversations whilst learning about themselves and life in general. Hard to see who this will really appeal to.

A Perfect Pairing
Another Netflix offering that almost feels it could be on Hallmark. An American wine executive (Victoria Justice) quits her job to set up her own company. To secure a valuable client, she travels to Australia and meets hunky Max (Adam Demos). Justice is a likeable presence and although totally predictable, this is watchable enough.

Toscana
The IMDB description for this film reads: “When a Danish chef travels to Tuscany to sell his father’s business, he meets a local woman who inspires him to rethink his approach to life and love”, That tells you pretty much everything you need to know about this totally predictable movie.

F*ck Love Too
A woefully unfunny Dutch comedy about a group of unlucky in love friends. It feels like a series of unconnected and uninteresting scenes and features some truly horrilbe rapping.

Godspeed
A very earnest but also very tedious Turkish movie about an ex soldier with PTSD trying to prevent a marriage because his friend is in love with one of the parties.

A Perfect Family
A Spanish culture clash comedy about a son of rich parents getting engaged to a girl from a poor background. No surprises but a few chuckles along the way
