It is time for a round up of new films that I have seen on Netflix this month, in what proved to be the slimmest of pickings!
Madea’s Destination Wedding
I have written some, mostly, scathing reviews of Tyler Perry’s work on this site but I have not covered his Madea movies, where he portrays Mabel “Madea” Simmons, an elderly African-American woman. In this 13th time in the role, in a film that he also wrote and directed, she travels to the Bahamas for a wedding. I found this a painful watch with most of the actors seemingly trying to outdo each other with their over acting. Chief culprit, is, of course, Perry.

Apocalypse in the Tropics
This documentary directed by Petra Costa examines the influence of evangelical Christianity on far right politics in Brazil. An important subject and a timely one as many other countries seem to be going the same way. But, for anyone who watches the news, there is little that is revelatory, and the voice over is a bit annoying.

Happy Gilmore 2
Thirty years after Happy Gilmore, Adam Sandler returns as the title character. After accidentally killing his wife, he has given up golf. But when he faces financial ruin and is unable to pay for his daughter to go to ballet school, he comes out of retirement. I am not a big fan of the original, but it feels like a classic compared to this sequel. There are a few good gags hidden amongst a bloated mess of cameos, repeated jokes, and product placement.
