Although Corsage is barely out of the cinemas, Vicky Krieps is back, this time as Hélène Mouchet a 33 year old woman who is married to Matthieu, played by the late Gaspard Ulliel in his final role. Hélène’s is diagnosed with a rare lung disease which will be terminal unless she has a risky double transplant. She, though, she finds some sort of comfort in the online writings of a Norwegian blogger called Mister (Bjørn Floberg), who is seriously ill and documents his life. She decides to not have the operation and to travel to Norway on her own to meet him.

As with Corsage, Krieps is the best thing about More Than Ever. In many ways, Hélène is a hard character to like, pushing Matthieu away, and refusing to acknowledge that anyone else is impacted by her dire situation. However, Krieps is able to convey enough warmth to make you care about what happens to her.

Unfortunately, after a promising beginning, the film descends into finding yourself territory and the glacial pace begins to become a problem. It is not helped by director Emily Atef indulging herself with some pretty cliched water related visual imagery.

A tough watch, despite Krieps presence, but not in the way Atef intended.
