Liz (Tatiana Maslany) and her doctor boyfriend Malcolm (Rossif Sutherland) head to a secluded cabin for their one year anniversary weekend. Liz starts to experience weird happenings that only intensify when Malcolm has to return to the city for a seriously ill patient.

Director Osgood Perkins is one of the hottest names in horror, with both Longlegs and The Monkey on his CV in the last 12 months or so. Keeper more resembles the former as it, particularly in the first half, has some startling imagery, a handful of shocking moments and a general feeling of dread.

When more is revealed about Malcolm and the threat to Liz is materialised, it becomes less effective and less original. It also is a little vague in its explanation, probably leaving itself open to a prequel.

But, Maslany does a good job throughout, though Sutherland is not charismatic enough for his part.
