This final part of this new David Gordon Green directed Michael Myers trilogy has been one of my most anticipated films of 2022. Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her role of Laurie Strode for the seventh, and presumably, final time. It is four years since the events of Halloween Kills. Laurie is writing her memoirs whilst living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matchichak). Myers has not been seen in the intervening time, but when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), who previously accidentally killed the child he was babysitting, starts dating Allyson, things are about to change.
The opening sequence is both surprising and effective. It is understandable why Laurie initially bonds with Corey. What works less well, though, is how Corey comes under Michael’s spell, and how Allyson falls quite so heavily for him. That means that the second act is fairly sluggish.
There is some redemption in the last third though, with some creative killings, especially of an annoying DJ. Michael’s fate seems pretty final, though I dare say there will be a James Bond style reboot in the near future!
