Newcomer George Amponsah directs this British crime drama starring Stephen Odubola as Ash, who is part of a London-based moped street gang. He uses earnings from petty thefts to support his 14 year old sister whilst trying to save enough to put his Mum through rehab.

This is a curious mixture of believable urban deprivation and convincing crime scenes with other things that feel pretty ridiculous. A street racing sequence seems like a deleted scene from an early Fast & Furious and a rap battle also feels like it is imported from another American movie.

There are good performances from Craige Middleburg as one of the gang and Stephen Toussaint is impressive as an ex-con who tries to look out for Ash. However writers Archie Maddocks and Taz Skyler (who also plays one of the gang) cannot write female characters. They are all two dimensional at best, though Jelena Gavrilovic’s Albanian crime boss is amusing, if very silly.

Amponsah shows enough in the kinetic go pro shot action scenes to indicate that he has talent, but he needs better written material than this.
