The Guest

Fun, though very silly, action movie with a great retro soundtrack. Try to ignore the numerous plot holes!

Guardians of the Galaxy

Bafflingly overrated Marvel effort elevated by Bradley Cooper’s performance. The plot is dull and hackneyed though.

The Possibilities are Endless

I’m a big Orange Juice and Edwyn Collins fan, and I have to say that I found this a little frustrating and disappointing, with the opening 20 to 30 minutes being annoyingly pretentious. It picks up after that, and it eventually becomes both heart breaking and heart warming, but uninitiated would have little idea of the brilliance of his song writing abilities by the end of the film.

Pompeii

Extraordinarily daft romp almost made watchable by Kiefer Sutherland’s hilariously bad English accent.

They Came Together

A rom-com parody that thankfully is in the style of Airplane or a Naked Gun rather than a epic or disaster movie. Some very funny moments, but it doesn’t quite have the courage of its convictions, with unnecessary gross-out jokes added. It also can’t keep up the comic momentum for the entire running time. A good effort though.

Cuban Fury

By the numbers British romantic comedy that passes the time reasonable well with nice chemistry between Nick Frost and Rashida Jones.

Filmed in Supermarionation

A straightforward talking head style documentary about Gerry Anderson’s various puppet series in the 1960s. You will end up itching to buy a Thunderbirds box set after seeing this!

Next Goal Wins

Good natured documentary about the American Samoan football team. Picking up after they have been beaten 31-0 by Australia, it charts their gradual improvement, a moment of triumph and then the biggest match in their history. The players come across as decent human beings but you may find yourself fast forwarding to the next match.

The Invisible Woman

Fine cast wasted in this plodding and dull tale of Charles Dicken’s mistress.
